CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The teen already serving time for his role in a New Albany fire that killed three children made a court appearance on an attempted murder charge in a separate case.

Cody Cashion appeared for a pre-trial conference in Jeffersonville on May 4.

The charges stem from an incident last year, when he and a 16-year-old were allegedly seen driving erratically around a Clarksville restaurant.

Police say when they tried to stop them, the teens intentionally slammed their vehicle into a police cruiser at close to 50 miles per hour.

Cashion's lawyer, Derwin Webb, says he and his client have been discussing a possible plea deal.

"The prosecutor and the state will sit down with him sometime in June to talk about another opportunity to see if we can get through this case," Webb said. "But right now it would be a blind plea, he would have to take that deal, based upon the judge's decision. If we want to do something else we would have to bring some more information to the table. Right now there is not much to go on."

Cashion is serving 65 years on murder and arson convictions, following the 2014 fire that killed Tai'zah, Tyrese, and Trinity Hughes. Their sister Taty'ana was seriously hurt.
