LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a Louisville man brutally assaulted his ex-girlfriend last week after luring her to meet him under the pretext of returning her belongings.

Police say 32-year-old Anthony Keys and the victim once lived together, and the victim agreed to meet Keys on April 27 to retrieve her property.

According to the arrest warrant, when the victim showed up to get her property, Keys didn't have it. Instead, police say he "began banging the victim's head against a vehicle."

Police say the victim got into a vehicle, but Keys got in with her and punched her several times. When the victim began blowing the horn to attract attention, "Keys pulled her out of the vehicle and "banged her head against a concrete building." At that point, police say the victim began losing consciousness.

That's when police say Keys took the victim's cell phones (valued at $500) and ran. Police say the victim's vision was blurry and she had trouble seeing as she crawled down an alley to a Kroger store, where an employee called police.

Police took pictures of the victim's injuries, which included: a concussion, pain to her right shoulder, contusions to her scalp, head, forehead, swelling and broken blood vessels in both eyes. She was taken to University Hospital for treatment.

A warrant was issued for Keys arrest on May 3, and he was taken into custody on May 4.

Keys is charged with assault and theft. He remains jailed at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $10,000 cash bond.

According to court documents, Keys was previously convicted of assaulting the victim in the past.
