Police in Clark County cracking down on drivers not wearing seat belts

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Police in Indiana are cracking down on drivers and passengers that don't use seat belts.

Law enforcement agencies in Clark County are teaming up for the national "Click it or Ticket" campaign.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department and the police departments from Jeffersonville, Clarksville, Charlestown and Sellersburg want you to know that officers will pull you over if you're not wearing a seatbelt.

Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel says people who don't wear seat belts have more to worry about than a citation and fine.

"I know people think, oh it's no big deal," Noel said. "But it is a big deal and ... if you're involved in a crash where the airbag goes off and you're unrestrained, you'll get injuries from that airbag."

Officers will be working overtime during the seat belt patrols - May 15 through the May 30.
