LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shelbyville Road (U.S. 60) was shut down in both directions near Valhalla Golf Club after a fatal crash Thursday afternoon, according to Louisville Metro Police.

The crash took place shortly after 4 p.m. on Shelbyville Road, near the Eastwood Cut Off, just past Valhalla.

Officials say a white Mustang heading west on Shelbyville Road crossed over the center lane and lost control. The Mustang hit a Volvo and then hit a Honda Odyssey.

According to authorities on scene, the driver of the Volvo was transported to University hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The Honda had a female driver and two children inside. The children were taken to Kosair with non life-threatening injuries and the woman was taken to University with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead on scene. Police say they are still investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

"I do know that our officers have had contact with him before," LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said when asked if the driver had run-ins with police in the past. "Specifically what the nature of that contact was I don't know but I know they have had contact with him."

Shelbyville road, between Beckley Station Parkway and Waterstone, was shut down after the crash, but has since reopened.
