LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky woman was arrested for manslaughter Thursday, months after she was allegedly involved in a fatal accident in Breckinridge County.

It happened Dec. 26 on Highway 261-N, just inside the Hardinsburg city limits, according to court documents.

Kentucky State Police say a 2005 Ford Explorer, driven by 31-year-old Julia Brown, had crashed into a tree and was badly damaged. Inside, they found Brown, who was screaming, along with passenger Sheena McCarty, who was unresponsive, according to court documents.

McCarty was pronounced dead when a paramedic arrived, police say.

According to a police report, Brown was taken by chopper to University Hospital with serious injuries, and she admitted to emergency personnel that she had been drinking.

Police say they found an empty beer bottle inside Brown's vehicle.

"Speed and alcohol were obvious contributing factors that resulted in the death of Sheena McCarty," police wrote in a report. "Neither subject in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt but it appeared that McCarty was attempting to put hers on because it was lying across her body."

On May 7, a Breckinridge County grand jury indicted Brown on second-degree manslaughter, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and driving without an operator's license, according to court documents.

Arrest records show that she was taken into custody by the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office on May 14.
