Louisville City rides strong first half to commanding 4-0 win over Toronto

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - For the second home game in a week, Louisville city netted three goals in the first half, taking control of the game en route to a 4-0 win over Toronto FC II.

Louisville City headed into halftime with goals from Matt Fondy, Kadeem Dacres and Conor Shanosky, who all now have multiple goals on the season.

Early in the second half, Fondy again found the back of the net for his third goal on the season.

"Coming into halftime, (head coach James O'Connor) was saying how one goal can change things," Fondy said. "So we needed to come out with the same kind of intensity and make sure the next one was ours."

The visitors were often unable to find their footing on the rain-soaked turf and couldn't overcome city's defenses.

Toronto's best chance came on a mid-range shot early in the second half, when a shot deflected off the crossbar.

A commanding midfield presence allowed Louisville's offense to create chance after chance and took the team to their highest single game goal total so far this season.

O'Connor was happy with a four-goal win, but added there is still plenty of room for improvement.

"We're obviously very pleased," O'Connor said. "At times our passing concentration can be better.

"It's very difficult ... when you win 4-0 obviously we're going to be very pleased. But there were countless opportunities in the first half for it to be more. I was disappointed that it wasn't."

City nearly pushed the margin to five just before stoppage time, but a spectacular save from Toronto keeper Alex Bono thwarted the final chance, also prompting the Louisville crowd of 6,090 to chant his name in the waning moments of the match.

Louisville out-shot Toronto by a whopping 24-7 margin, moving their record to 4-1-3 on the season with 15 points.

City heads to their first match in the US Open Cup on Wednesday in Lansing, Mich. before playing at Saint Louis FC next Sunday in the second Kings Cup clash of the season.
