War veterans receive hero's welcome upon returning home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - World War II and Korean War veterans were given a big surprise welcome as they returned to Louisville.

A crowd gathered at Louisville's International Airport on Saturday night as the veterans got off their Honor Flight.

The veterans visited memorials in Washington, D.C. and received thanks for their sacrifices.

One of the veterans was so excited about the Honor Flight, he wore the same boots that he wore during World War II. "I jumped into Germany with them, across the Rhine River," said veteran Raymond Boldery. "I put them on and had a lot of compliments on them. We called them jump boots."

The trip was free for the veterans, as it was a way to show them respect.
