LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Cutting out cancer ... with haircuts.

Some boys got their heads buzzed and some girls chopped off their long locks Sunday afternoon at 4th Street Live to raise money for cancer programs at Kosair Children's Hospital.

The goal was to raise $100,000, and organizers say every penny raised stays at the hospital.

With more than 80 children diagnosed each year and more than 650 receiving treatment at any given time, families of children with cancer say they are amazed by all the support.

"You don't realize that they get chemotherapy that makes them horribly sick and moody and makes them not understand what's happening to them," said Gena Johnson, who's son is fighting cancer.

"To have somebody come not familiar with that and say 'hey, let us help you.' It's incredible."

More than 150 people signed up for a haircut.
