LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police have charged a man with attempted murder after officials say he shot a victim during a robbery.

Deshawn Magett, 26, was arrested early Monday morning by police, after authorities say he shot a victim during a robbery.

Police records state that the incident happened on Sunday in the area of Cypress and Dumesnil Streets. Authorities say Magett and a co-defendant approached the victim and demanded money.

Investigators say the victim tried to run away. Police say Magett fired several gunshots and that one of the shots hit the victim in the stomach, causing "serious physical injury." Officials say the victim was able to get away because Magett's weapon misfired.

The victim was taken to University Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police say that an upper portion of the victim's kidney was removed. The victim also sustained injuries to his liver and pancreas.

Officials say the bullet is still in the victim's intestines. The victim is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks.

Magett is also charged with robbery and assault. He is being held on a $200,000 cash bond.
