BOZICH | NBA returning to Louisville, Lexington for exhibitions

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – NBA basketball is returning to the Bluegrass – at least the exhibition version of the pro game.

An announcement is expected Thursday morning that the Miami Heat will return to the KFC Yum! Center to play an exhibition game in October.

But next season the Heat will not be playing the New Orleans Pelicans. A source said that the Pelicans, featuring former University of Kentucky star Anthony Davis, will play an exhibition game at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

The Heat and Pelicans filled the KFC Yum! Center last Oct 4 when 20,074 watched New Orleans defeat Miami, 98-86.

It was the first NBA game played in the five-year-old facility. The game inspired fresh conversation about the area's ability to support an NBA franchise if one became available.

Without LeBron James, Miami missed the NBA playoff this season, finishing 37-45. New Orleans did make the playoffs with a 45-37 record. The Pelicans lost their first-round Western Conference playoff series to Golden State.
