LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Republican gubernatorial hopeful Hal Heiner addressed his supporters Tuesday night, conceding the race to his opponent, Matt Bevin.

"The outcome of this election is not what we had hoped for, not what we had worked for," Heiner said. "But tonight, I called Matt Bevin, congratulated him on his victory, pledged my support in the Fall campaign, and said, 'I need you to beat Jack Conway to move this state forward.'"

He called on listeners to support the Republican Party and move forward.

Heiner's concession to Bevin may be premature, however, because the race between Bevin and opponent James Comer remains too close to call.
