LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame will celebrate its 52nd Anniversary with a new class of seven.
Four new members were on hand for Tuesday's announcement at the KFC Yum! Center.They included former Valley High School and Ohio State University Track star Shandy Boyd and Lloyd Gardner, the longtime trainer, travel secretary and equipment manager with the Kentucky Colonels and a high school State Champion basketball coach at Fairdale. Also on hand, longtime Major League Umpire and current director of Major League Umpires Randy Marsh and former Western Kentucky University Women's Basketball Coach Paul Sanderford.
Also in attendance Tuesday was one of the two Ellis and Badenhausen Orthopaedics High School Athletes of the Year, Leah Stevens, an 11-time State Champion swimmer from Sacred Heart.Three-sport star Skyler Griffith from Williamsburg High School is the boys High School Athlete of the Year.
The other three members of the Hall of Fame class are Keeneland Race Course, Sharon Garland who led Laurel County High School to three consecutive State Basketball Championships in the late 1970's, and Mel Purcell, who rose to the top twenty in the world in men's tennis.
The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet takes place Wednesday June 17th at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville.
