Field trip to St. Louis for Wilt Elementary 5th graders canceled due to paperwork mistake

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Students and parents at Wilt Elementary School were left in the dark this morning, just moments before they were set to leave for a field trip.

The families were packing up buses Sunday morning to leave for an overnight stay in St. Louis when the trip ended up getting canceled at the last minute.

Principal Kimberly Kent tells WDRB the school was supposed to get permission from the board to go on the trip and the board approval form was not completed.

Kent says it wasn't found out until Sunday morning when someone asked about the form and they realized they didn't have it.

Teachers and the PTA helped plan the trip that included a stop at the St. Louis Zoo for 64 people including 5th graders and their parents.

Parents tell WDRB that the trip cost about $260.

Kent says the PTA is working with trip planners to try and get everyone's money back and they'll have more information for parents on Tuesday because they still need to speak with businesses and vendors.
