LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- You have the opportunity to save a life today.

The Holiday Hero Blood Drive is going on until 7:00 tonight at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The "100 days of summer, 100 days of hope" campaign kicked off today. It's focused on trying to bring out donors at a time of year when donations are usually down.

"We just want to remind people that throughout the summer months, especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day, we see a decline in donors coming out because it's the time of year that everyone's very busy, school's out, vacations are being planned," said American Red Cross spokeswoman Lindsay English. "So people just don't take as much time as they do during the other parts of the year to come and donate."

For participating in the blood drive, donors will get a free Stoker's Broaster Chicken dinner, a coupon for a free pint of Graeter's ice cream and a t-shirt.
