LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Brown-Forman says a new Old Forester distillery on Main Street could cost 50 percent more than anticipated, according to a release.

Brown-Forman announced in September 2014 that it will open the Old Forester Distillery in the two historic buildings on Whiskey Row in the fall of 2016. The release Thursday announced the official purchase of the property for $4.5 million.

The company says Messer Construction won the bidding process to become the contractor on the project. The company will renovate the 55,000 square feet of space behind a 52 foot facade on Main Street.

Brown-Forman says the company will now invest about $45 million in this project, up from a previously pledged $30 million.

The new Old Forester Distillery will allow the company to double its current production of Old Forester at 117 and 119 Main Street. It will serve as a home for the Old Forester brand with public tours, a tasting room, exhibits, bourbon-making demonstrations and event spaces.
