Bridge rehabilitation project on I-265 will impact traffic on State Street in New Albany

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- An Indiana Department of Transportation bridge rehabilitation project on Interstate 265 will soon impact traffic on State Street at New Albany.

On Monday, June 1, INDOT plans to inspect damage at the I-265 bridge that spans State Street, located 0.84 miles east of I-64. Inspectors will work from a westbound lane on State Street -- requiring closure of that lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Another westbound lane will remain open to motorists, but trucks with wide loads will be restricted.

Beginning Tuesday, June 2, INDOT's contractor -- E & B Paving -- will be on site during overnight hours to heat-straighten a steel beam that was bent when a drilling rig traveling on State Street crashed into it. The contractor will also reset a bearing assembly. This work requires nightly single-lane closures on the westbound side of State Street between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

INDOT officials anticipate these nighttime closures will continue through June 15. Completion date for this $189,875 repair contract is June 30.
