Louisville City fights Saint Louis to second draw in 6 days

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC and Saint Louis FC battled to a draw Saturday night for the second time in a week.

The third leg of the Kings' Cup ended in a 1-1 draw after two second half goals.

"We didn't play quick enough," Louisville head coach James O'Connor said. "It was to be expected, that was our sixth game in 18 days.

"I knew before the game it was going to be tough for us."

Despite those tired legs, Louisville was able to hold steady through the opening half and strike quickly out of halftime.

Kadeem Dacres struck for Louisville City, heading a long ball from Charlie Adams just past Saint Louis keeper Alec Kann.

Dacres was named Louisville City's man of the match in front of 7,185 fans at Louisville Slugger Field.

"It's good being recognized for my performance, but at the same time we didn't get the three points," Dacres said after the match.

"So I'm a bit disappointed. We just have to work harder next time."

Despite fielding 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee for the first 61 minutes, Saint Louis FC was unable to find the back of the net until the 69th minute when Charles Renken finished a cross to put the visitors on the scoresheet.

Center official Andrew Musashe struggled to keep a physical game from turning worse, but didn't reach into his pocket until the 81st minute when Louisville City's Enrique Montano was shown a yellow card for pulling down Jeremy Lynch -- who may have been away for a one-on-one with keeper Scott Goodwin.

Louisville moved to 4-1-5 on the season, good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

"The effort and commitment this team has shown has been incredible," O'Connor said. "If you look at the size of our squad, the amount of games we've had  ... the traveling we've done ... it's a great credit to the players, because the effort has been tremendous."

The team will get a much-needed 10 days off before traveling north to face FC Montreal on June 10.
