LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A woman has been charged with attempted murder, after police say she fired a shot at a victim. Police say this happened after the woman allegedly stole items from a store.

Catherine Marie Stephens was arrested Friday afternoon in the 3700 block of 7th Street Road, near Manslick Road, according to official police records.

Authorities say Stephens entered a Family Dollar on Thursday around 3:15 p.m.

Investigators say Stephens selected multiple items and then hid them in a large shopping bag. Police say Stephens then walked out of the store without paying for the merchandise.

Officials say Stephens was confronted in the store's parking lot by store employees.

Official records indicate that Stephens then hit one of the employees in the face, which caused a minor injury. Authorities say Stephens then pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot at the employee. The shot hit the employee, according to police.

Authorities have not given word about the victim's condition.

Stephens is charged with attempted murder, robbery and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. She is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $250,000 cash bond.
