LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Learning won't stop in the summer for Louisville students.

Mayor Greg Fischer has announced 80 summer learning programs for children. Opportunities range from safari camps at the Louisville Zoo, to reading programs and brain chase games.

Hundreds of camps will be organized by non-profits, colleges and museums.

Mayor Fischer says it will keep students from falling behind.

"Study after study tells us that a child's learning process is not something that you can put on pause, like a show on your DVR, then step away for however long you want to and come back and just pick it right back up where you left it off," said Mayor Greg Fischer.

Mayor Fischer says many of the city's summer programs are free or low-cost.

Fischer's 2015-2016 budget includes hundreds of thousands of dollars to improve summer youth programming.
