LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections took his own life last week.

That's according to a news release from Metro Corrections.

According to the release, 35-year-old Mark Webb died from "an apparent suicide" on Friday, May 29. Metro Corrections Asst. Director Steve Durham says Webb used a towel to hang himself in the dormitory shower.

Durham says Metro Corrections staff performed CPR on Web until EMS arrived. Webb was then taken to University Hospital where he died the next day.

Webb was jailed on April 25 on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $300, possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding bench warrant.

"The Louisville Metro Police's Public Integrity Unit is investigating, a standard procedure for any serious event in the detention facility, and LMDC Director Mark Bolton instructed LMDC Professional Standards to begin their review of the case," Durham said.
