Louisville, KY (WDRB) – Baseball is a game of numbers. How about these numbers for the University of Louisville baseball team? 12 and 3. An opportunity this Saturday to win their 12th consecutive postseason game at Jim Patterson Stadium and, by winning 2 of 3 against Cal State Fullerton, a chance to go their third straight College World Series.
“We've got some veterans and they've tasted it,” said sophomore outfielder Corey Ray. “I obviously have that bad taste in my mouth from Omaha last year. You know, I've been there. I've seen everything that I've needed to see. I've done everything that I need to do. Now it's time to win a national championship.”
Last year's team was eliminated in Omaha after back-to-back losses against Vanderbilt and Texas. If U of L gets past Cal State Fullerton, who defeated Louisville 8-6 back in February, there will be no “happy to be there” feeling when they get to TD Ameritrade Park. But first things first, and that's trying to get 2-of-3 from the Titans, starting Saturday morning.
“I'm sure they were a much different team than they were then, we definitely are too, “said junior pitcher Kyle Funkhouser, who is slated to start the Super Regional opener.
Game one is scheduled for 11am Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
