LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a suspect in connection with several burglaries at a south Louisville apartment complex.

According to the arrest report, the burglaries took place between Aug. 1 2014 and Sept. 30, 2014. During that time period, police say James McCowan and two accomplices entered vacant apartments in the Yorktown Apartments near the National Turnpike "by unknown means."

Once inside, police say the suspects stole copper piping and other metal items.

Police say McCowan took the scrap metals to Grade A Allstate on several occasions, where he sold it. Two co-defendants have already been charged. Both admitted to stealing from the apartment complex, and said McCowan was with them.

Police obtained records and video from Grade A Allstate that showed McCowan sold copper and other metal items on numerous occasions between August and September of 2014.

McCowan was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department on June 3.

According to the Metro Corrections website, he is charged with two counts of burglary and being a persistent felony offender.

McCowan's bond was set at $36,000.
