LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Police say a teenager was the target of a shooting early Wednesday morning in west Louisville.

It happened near 32nd and Rowan just as the sun was coming up.

"Sounded like an explosion," said one neighbor.

That neighbor didn't want to be identified but said the sound was like nothing she's ever heard before.

"I was just sitting in the living room doing some sewing and all of a sudden I heard all these shots, at least 8 or 10."

She says she's lived on the street for 45 years and has never been so scared. "I got two grandsons that walk to the bus stop and about 10 minutes after the shooting, they had to go out and walk to that bus stop."

Police say it was just before 6:30 Wednesday morning when someone in a car that was driving on 32nd Street popped up out of the sunroof and started shooting at a teenager who was walking to the bus stop.

“They were able to locate a victim," said LMPD Det. Matt Montfort. "It was a young male who states that on his way to a bus stop that he was shot at by an unknown individual."

Montfort says investigators do not t have a description of the shooter but the victim believes the incident could be related to a recent shooting on 38th street.

"Any leads we get we would definitely follow up with," said Montfort. "I'm not aware if it was a retaliation from another shooting."

The shooter didn't hit his target but did do some other damage: a truck that was parked on 32nd Street was shot three times.

The owner of it didn't want to be interviewed but told us it is not the first time something like this has happened. He said his house has been shot before, too.

His neighbor down the street says she's scared the shooter will return to finish the job. "It really makes you on edge. The kids could be out playing when it happens the next time."

Shell casings were collected at the scene and police believe a semi-automatic hand gun was used.

The victim was not hurt. The case is being investigated as wanton endangerment since a person was not shot.
