Louisville, KY (WDRB) – The Louisville Cardinals have a third straight trip to the College World Series in their sites. To get there, they'll have to get two of three games against Cal State Fullerton this weekend at Jim Patterson Stadium.
“I trust this group. I like this group a lot. I just gotta stay out of their way. I just gotta free ‘em up and let them play. It'll be a fun weekend,” said Louisville head baseball coach Dan McDonnell.
That confidence in his team is well placed. And he should be confident playing at Jim Patterson Stadium, where the Cardinals have won 11 straight NCAA postseason games.
“It sells out this time of the year. When we get a big play or get big hits, you can feel the momentum and it's tough on other teams, “said Cardinals senior outfielder Sutton Whiting.
Louisville will start Kyle Funkhouser in Saturday's opener. Cal State Fullerton Thomas Eshelman is set to start for the Titans. Both pitchers are 8-5 this season.
First pitch is set for Saturday at 11am. Sunday's game is scheduled for a noon start. If a third game is needed, the start time of that matchup will be determined following Sunday's game.
