LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - American Pharoah is the wire-to-wire winner of the 2015 Belmont Stakes, cementing himself as the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, who also went for the Triple Crown a year ago atop California Chrome, American Pharoah finished with a time of 2:26:65.

That's the second-fastest winning time for the Belmont Stakes for a Triple Crown winner. Secretariat has the fastest time, at 2:24:00.

Since Affirmed last won the Triple Crown in 1978, 13 horses had won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, only to fall short at Belmont Park.

Frosted finished second, and Keen Ice finished third.

American Pharoah, owned by Zayat Stables, was bred in Winchester, Ky.
