LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer is planning $7.4 million in improvements and maintenance to city parks.

The money is part of his recommended city budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

It includes a $300,000 upgrade to the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center for a critically-needed pool filter.

He also highlighted other projects, including the next 21.5 miles of the 100-mile Louisville Loop.

Fischer says if a local option sales tax is approved, the project could be funded in a fraction of the time.

"We could fund the whole loop in nine months, verses the 25 years it's taking without the local option," he said. "That's the kind of dramatic improvements we could have to the city if we have that right to vote for local capital projects."

His budget also calls for $1.6 million for general repairs and emergency maintenance to Metro Parks.
