LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – The first Triple Crown winner in 37 years has returned to Louisville.

American Pharoah got back to Louisville on Sunday. He flew in from New York and arrived at Louisville International Airport shortly before 1 p.m. He was then accompanied by police escort to his barn at Churchill Downs where he won the Kentucky Derby on May 2.

A small crowd gathered around American Pharoah's barn and cheered as he walked off his van. American Pharoah appeared to enjoy the attention. He even came right up to WDRB's Mike Lacett and kissed his hand while he was operating his camera.

On Saturday, American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes, becoming the first horse since Affirmed to win the Triple Crown.

American Pharoah will remain in Louisville through the week. He is expected to parade in the Stephen Foster Handicap celebration on Saturday, June 13.
