LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested three people in connection with the savage beating of a homeless man that left the victim in critical condition.

Police say they have arrested 19-year-old Andre Richards. The arrest came late Sunday night. According to an arrest citation, Richards made a statement to police in which he, "described the details of the crime and admitted to his involvement in the assault of the victim, which manifested extreme indifference to the value of human life and resulted in injuries which placed the victim in grave risk of death."

"The victim is currently in critical condition and his prognosis is uncertain at this time," police say.

Police say they also arrested two 15-year-old juveniles in connection with the case. As juvenile records are sealed, no details as to their identities are being released at this time.

Police released details of the crime late last week. It happened just before 5 a.m. last Tuesday, near the corner of 16th Street and Northwestern Parkway, near the floodwall. According to police, witnesses driving to work saw three suspects attacking a white male in his 60s.

"The victim sustained severe head trauma," LMPD detective Anthony Wilder said. "A medical evaluation determined that those injuries were life threatening."

The suspects fled the scene; police say two of them were on bicycles and the third was on foot.

The victim was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"With a senseless act like that on an innocent gentleman like that," said one man who came upon the incident shortly after it happened. "Three punks out having fun, no reason for it. Man still had his wallet and his backpack. They just beat him for the fun of it."

The victim is in critical condition and is not expected to survive.
