LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In a ceremony Monday night, Eric Crawford accepted the award for Kentucky Sportswriter of the Year from The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

The award was announced earlier this year. The organization awards one writer and one broadcaster from each state every year. The award is determined from balloting from sportswriters and broadcasters around the state.

Eric had previously received several honors by the Associated Press Sports Editors, including a national award in deadline sports reporting for his part in breaking a story about U of L coach Bobby Petrino secretly interviewing with Auburn University. He's also a winner of the Red Smith Writing Award for Kentucky Derby coverage, and of several awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.

It's the first time a statewide National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association writing award has been given to a journalist from a local television station.
