LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A blind woman is thankful to be alive after her service dog stepped in front of a school bus to protect her.

Audrey Stone was crossing a street on June 8 in Brewster, New York with her 8-year-old Golden Retriever, Figo.

She couldn't see danger approaching, but Figo could.

The service dog immediately switched to Stone's left side, directly in the path of the oncoming bus.

"I thank him (Figo). I thank God that I have him and he survived too, and I love him," Stone said.

Both Stone and Figo were injured in the accident, but are expected to make a full recovery.

The loyal dog refused to leave his owner's side until paramedics arrived.
