LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Jefferson County man has been arrested after officials say he used a computer to contact a minor to set up a meeting for sexual activity.

Douglas Powell, 62, was arrested May 29 by investigators with Atty. General Jack Conway's Cybercrimes Unit and Jeffersontown Police.

Officials allege that Powell used a computer to arrange a meeting with someone he thought was a 15-year-old to engage in sexual activity. Authorities say Powell was in possession of illegal drugs at the time he was arrested.

Investigators have charged Powell with prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor in a sex offense and illegally possessing a controlled substance. Both charges carry potential prison terms ranging from one to five years.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office of Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell.

Powell is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $5,000 cash bond.

He has been instructed to have no contact with minor children.

He is scheduled to appear in Jefferson District Court for a preliminary hearing on June 22 at 9 a.m.
