Louisville City FC kicks off 3-game road trip with 2-0 win over FC Montreal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville City FC kicked off their three-game road trip with a convincing 2-0 victory in Montreal Wednesday night.

In a mostly empty Stade Saputo, FC Montreal put their few chances off the post or the hands of Scott Goodwin. Montreal earned a few breakaways on counter attacks, but City's defenders were quick to shut down the attacks near the area.

Louisville City was quicker up and down the pitch, counter attacking fast and capitalizing on every chance Montreal gave them.

The easiest chance came when a Montreal defender passed the ball almost directly to Matt Fondy at the edge of the box in the 29th minute. Fondy stepped up and slotted a shot past the keeper to move the visitors up 2-0.

Louisville City's first strike came off a set piece – something head Coach James O'Connor has been pushing in recent practices. Niall McCabe crossed the ball in to Tarek Morad, who buried a shot to give Louisville the 1-0 lead.

Despite piling on chances late, Louisville was unable to put more goals on the score sheet.

Louisville City adds three points with the win, moving to 5-1-5 with 20 points. FC Montreal moves to 1-8-1, remaining in last place in the Eastern Conference with just 4 points.

Louisville City takes on Rochester Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in New York.
