LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are conducting a death investigation in Louisville's Portland neighborhood after a 3-year-old boy died.

Officials at the scene tell WDRB's Emily Mieure that the child was found unresponsive at a home in the 1800 block of Griffiths Avenue around 8:30 this morning.

We're told his parents called 911, and the boy was rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The child's aunt tells WDRB the boy's name is Alexander Michael Singleton. He is pictured at right.

“They're good parents. He works. She's a stay at home mom,” Dorothy Riggle told WDRB.

Riggle says the boy went by "Mikey" and leaves behind five siblings.

“He was a good kid, a real good kid. Happy, outgoing, he plays a lot. Loved his brothers and sisters,” she said.

She isn't sure how the family will move on.

"I have no idea. It's hard. It's gonna be hard,” she said.

The LMPD Homicide Unit was on scene Thursday but Lt. Todd Kessinger says right now, it's only a death investigation.

"Just because we're out here doesn't mean it's suspicious. We investigate any death that's deemed unnatural so we're going through that basic investigation right now,” he told WDRB.

Kessinger says it's too early to know what caused the boy to die.

“We'll process the scene and do interviews and go from there,” he said.

Kessinger says a cause of death should be determined in the next two days.
