LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Louisville Bats returned home for a seven-game homestand but had their return spoiled in part by a native of the Commonwealth.
Covington Catholic High School and UK product Luke Maile hit homered to cap a four-run sixth as the Durham Bulls won the opener of a four-game series 6-3 on Thursday night.Maile, the Bulls Catcher went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored before a strong rooting section of friends and family members at Louisville Slugger Field.His two-run homer off Jose De La Torre followed a two-run blast to center J.P. Arencibia off Bats starter Donovan Hand.
The Bats tried to rally from the 5-1 deficit with a couple of runs in the seventh. Jermaine Curtis scored on a wild throw by Arencibia on an infield single off the bat of Chris Berset. Irving Falu then delivered a sacrifice fly to center scoring Jose Constanza.
Louisville got no closer, falling 6-3 to drop to 31-30 on the season. Hand (1-3) took the loss. Everett Teaford (4-5) gave up just one run on three hits in six innings to get the win for Durham.
Game two of the four-game series is Friday at 7:05 pm.
