Old Louisville brunch spot 'Rudyard Kipling' announces it will close

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular spot in Old Louisville has served its last Sunday brunch, according to a post on Facebook.

The Rudyard Kipling has discontinued its Sunday brunches and will close its doors on June 26.

“It's a long time historic venue for both Old Louisville and the city as a whole, it's gonna be sorely missed,” Metro Councilman David James (D-District 6) said via phone Monday.

The Rudyard Kipling posted the announcement to Facebook last Friday and has a letter posted in the window explaining the closure.

Councilman James said the building is for sale, but he didn't have anything in mind or any preferences for a replacement.

“I want it to be something that's of quality and of value to the community,” he said. “We've been doing a lot to revitalize Oak Street and with the Rud leaving, it's gonna leave a big hole."

The statement posted letter reads, "It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the close of our Sunday Brunch at The Rud. To all of our customers, we thank you for your support over the past several years even through our move from Germantown to Old Louisville. We will miss you all dearly. We could not have been blessed with a better family of staff over the years and appreciate all of the dedication and hard work from each and every one of you. The building is currently for sale and we must focus our attention to the sale at this time. Thanks again for all of your love and support and we hope that our brunch will pop back up somewhere in Louisville in the future."
