NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Prosecutors say a man found dead in his New Albany home in February was killed by a close friend.

Police and prosecutors say Earl Moore's murder was not just a random act of violence. They believe Moore was targeted by someone he knew and trusted: Noah Nevil.

Prosecutors are in the process of charging Nevil with murder and arson in connection with Moore's death.

"I believe they were well acquainted with each other," said Floyd County prosecutor Keith Henderson.

Firefighters pulled Moore from his burning New Albany home in February of this year. He was rushed to the hospital but later died.

Prosecutors say Nevil beat Moore and left him for dead, then set the fire to hide the crime and perhaps his motive.

"My office alleges that there was a theft or a robbery that occurred of several items," said Floyd County prosecutor Keith Henderson.

Right now Nevil is in custody on unrelated charges, but prosecutors planned to have him served with a warrant on Wednesday.
