Louisville-based Jewish group issues statement on S.C. church shootings

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Late Thursday afternoon, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Louisville issued a statement on the mass shooting that took place at a South Carolina church last night.

That statement reads as follows:

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Louisville is shocked and outraged at the hate crime that took place today at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C. A house of worship should be a place of safety and sanctuary. Prejudice and violence inspired by it cannot be tolerated nor condoned.

Jewish tradition teaches that each life is sacred and when one life is taken a whole community is destroyed. The loss of life today diminishes us all.

The thoughts and prayers of our entire community are with the victims of this tragedy and their families, and we hope that the perpetrator is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
