FRANKFORT, Ky (WDRB) -- Just before sundown on Saturday, a Franklin County deputy pulled over 36-year-old Johnathan McGrew for driving a scooter with a child on the back who wasn't wearing a helmet.

McGrew told the deputy he didn't have an operator's license and then falsely identified himself as his brother Kenneth McGrew.

"Well what he didn't know is Kenneth, he also has a warrant outstanding as well for his arrest,” said Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton.

Sheriff Melton says from there, things escalated quickly.

"He pushed the deputy, to gain distance, turned around and took off running,” he said.

Melton says his deputy chased McGrew, tased him and a fist fight ensued.

“The fight lasted for a few minutes before the deputy was able to subdue him and place him under arrest,” Melton told WDRB.

McGrew was taken to the hospital and booked into jail under his brother's name.

Finger prints a few days later revealed his correct identity as Johnathan McGrew which revealed a violent criminal history of a wanted felon.

McGrew has charges in Bullitt, Jefferson, Hardin and now Franklin Counties.

Some of those include fleeing or evading police, assault on a police officer, criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.

“It's frustrating. Why is he not in jail? Why is he not in prison? How many chances do we give?" said Melton.

McGrew is facing more than 20 new charges after Saturday's arrest. He's being held a no bond and has a court date set for this Tuesday.
