LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- AT&T has put its downtown office building at 601 W. Chestnut Street up for sale for $11.4 million.

The 5-story building, assessed at $13.8 million for tax purposes, spans the length of the block between 6th and 7th streets.

Cathy Lewandowski, an AT&T spokeswoman based in Nashville, said in an email that employees who work at 601 W. Chestnut will move across the street to AT&T's building at 534 Armory Place, telecommute or work from "other company locations within Louisville."There is no firm date, but the change should occur sometime this year, she said.

"We're in a very competitive business and must consistently evaluate our real estate portfolio and operational needs to ensure we're making the most effective and efficient use of all of our facilities," Lewandowski said.

Lewandowski declined to say how many employees work at 601 W. Chestnut Street. They work "in a variety of functions that include engineering, sales, regulatory and customer assistance," she said.

"We remain committed to this area and continue to hire here. In fact, we hired about 625 people in Kentucky in 2014, including more than 190 in Louisville. And we're currently hiring over 50 more in Louisville," Lewandowski said.

The building was constructed in 1978, according to PVA records. The real estate listing says it has 198,400 square feet.
