13-yr-old shooting victim earns good grades during recovery, trip to Hollywood
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 13-year-old Louisville boy shot in the back after playing basketball gets an invitation to Hollywood.
Diontae "Tay" Reed was shot in March in the Shawnee neighborhood.
During his recovery, he kept all A's and B's in school, and recently graduated from Kammerer Middle School.
He's impressed local city leaders, and Hollywood stars including Master P who invited him to Hollywood later this week.
He'll make public service announcements to encourage kids to turn away from violence.
Today he shared part of his message about the terrifying moments after being shot.
"I thought I was going to die because I got shot and ambulance was taking too long," Tay Reed said. "I started to get real cold and was about to fall asleep but them my friend Jeffrey who got shot was talking to me so I wouldn't fall asleep."
Reed turns 14 on Sunday so he'll also be celebrating his birthday in Hollywood.
