Kickballin' for Kids tournament raises money for Kosair Children's Hospital

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The annual Kickballin' for Kids kickball tournament hosted its fourth fundraiser for Kosair Children's Hospital Saturday at Waterfront Park.

Volunteers with the National Kickball Association created the tournament experience for all teams and players. The event is a benefit for Kosair Children's Hospital.

Aiden Johnson, a 9-year-old cancer patient, was the guest of honor and kicked the opening roll.

A total of 25 teams came out for the tournament so organizers had to add more fields this year.

Entry fees were $295 per team and $35 for individuals.

"It's a lot of work but a lot of fun, and when you see everyone out here, all of the teams -- hundreds of people, how much fun they're having -- it really makes it worth it," said Neil Kessler with the National Kickball Association. "And also, when you see the results like at Kosair Children's Hospital, it makes it worth it as well too."

This is the fourth year for the tournament in Louisville. All proceeds will be given to Kosair's oncology wing.
