LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Local union members have voted to accept the terms of a new four-year contract at the GE Appliance Park and, after a national vote, the new contract has been officially ratified.

After three weeks of negotiations in New York, GE and union reps voted unanimously on a new proposed contract, which IUE-CWA Local 761 President Dana Crittendon discussed the proposal Sunday with employees in Louisville.

"My message to everyone was, you know, this meeting here, we want to educate you, what's in this contract here and for you to decide, you know, what's best for you and your family," Crittendon said Sunday.

GE unions across the country approved the new contract, which covers about 16,500 union-represented employees. Local union workers are set to get $4,500 in bonuses after approving the contract.

"This ‘yes' vote is good news for GE, the unions, our employees and ultimately, our customers. We are gratified that our represented employees have solidly backed this contract that provides an excellent GE job package, while helping the company to continue to succeed,” GE Vice President Greg Capito said.

The new contract includes cash payments and wage increases, enhanced pay for military service, and no healthcare increases for the rest of the year.

The labor agreement covers numerous GE locations including Louisville, KY (GE Appliances); Lynn, MA (GE Aviation); and Schenectady, NY (GE Power & Water).
