LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Alabama man claims kids were making too much noise outside his hotel room, then police say he pointed a gun at the children.

It happened at the Holiday Inn on Farmington Avenue around 9:30 last night.

A woman told police her children were outside their room playing with a ball.

Police say that's when 51-year-old Matt Barkley opened the door of his room, and pointed a handgun --  with a laser -- at a child's forehead and told the kids to be quiet.

Inside his room, police say they found the handgun on a nightstand next to his bed, with a loaded magazine beside it.

Police say Barkley admitted to pointing the gun at the kids. but told police that he was sorry...and that he wasn't sure why he did it, but he had been drinking earlier that night.

"There is going to be a further condition of no alcohol, no use of drugs or alcohol until further order of the court," the judge said. "You understand that? Holiday weekend is coming. You cannot drink. If you are found drinking, we'll put you right back in the jail."

The judge also ordered he not have any guns. His bond was set at $500.

Barkley plead not guilty to wanton endangerment. He says he works in Louisville as a hospital contractor and goes back to Alabama on the weekends.
