LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Community leaders began searching for information Wednesday night regarding who was responsible in the hit and run death of Deniesha Pugh.

Pugh was hit by a car near the intersection of 26th and Broadway around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night and then dragged several blocks. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We're going to talk to some businesses in the community, talk to some residents,” said Jerald Muhammad with the group Brothers Helping Brothers, “A lot don't want to talk or be on camera but we want to get some information.”

Muhammad was joined with representatives from the Man Up group as well, who tried speaking with people in the area of 26th and Broadway about the hit and run.

“It sounded like a car wreck, a bad wreck,” one man said who lives near the scene.” We have them here all the time. I wish I knew more, because I want to catch them too. That wasn’t right to do that.”

Muhammad also spent time at WLOU and WLLV radio stations making a call for information.

“When I look at what happened and in the way that it happened,” Muhammad said on the radio. “That's what bothers me more than anything.”

LMPD is still searching for the driver of the vehicle that is described as a white Chevy Impala. Officials say it will likely have front end and windshield damage.

“Be a human,” Muhammad said. “We're trying to appeal to your moral conscience to turn yourself in. It was an accident; we believe it was an accident. You made it a crime.”

LMPD is also asking for help in this case and is urging anyone with information in the case; you can call the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.

Muhammad said he and other community leaders are currently looking into the possibility of coming up with reward money for information leading to an arrest.
