Traffic changes for Southern Indiana drivers take effect after 4th of July holiday

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Southern Indiana drivers need to be aware of a big traffic change after the 4th of July weekend.

The ramp from US 31 South to Court Avenue is scheduled to close Monday, July 6. The closure is expected to be in place by 5 a.m. on Monday. The closure means drivers won’t have direct access to Court Avenue or the Clark Memorial Bridge.

A signed detour will be in place. Southbound drivers will continue on I-65 South to Exit 0. Drivers will exit to westbound Market Street and take a right on northbound Missouri Avenue to either access the Clark Memorial Bridge or Court Avenue.

During the closure, crews will be building a new ramp that will be in use later this year.

The closure will remain in effect through September.

New Ramp to Stansifer Avenue to Open

A new ramp from I-65 North to Stansifer Avenue is scheduled to open next week. The temporary ramp that has been carrying traffic from I-65 North to Stansifer Avenue will close.

The new ramp marks a much earlier decision point for drivers. They’ll access the new Stansifer Avenue ramp from Exit 0, right off the Kennedy Bridge. Drivers traveling to Stansifer Avenue will follow the 10th Street exit to access the new ramp. Signage will be in place, clearly marking the new ramp. The ramp will be the new, permanent configuration for drivers traveling from I-65 North to Stansifer Avenue.

The temporary ramp is expected to close and the new ramp is expected to open early Thursday, July 9. Both changes are expected to be in place by 5 a.m. The actual start date may be adjusted because of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
