Former Metro Corrections officer pleads guilty to theft, official misconduct

LOUISVILLE, Ky., (WDRB) -- A former Metro Corrections officer pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing from the department and agreed to pay back about $5,000 in restitution.

Joshua Spenton pleaded guilty to theft by deception and official misconduct in Jefferson Circuit Court, with a recommended sentence of two years in prison.

As part of the offer, however, the Jefferson Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office will recommend a judge grant Spenton probation on the condition he pays back the money he took.

Investigators said Spenton clocked in at Metro Corrections, but was actually working another off-duty security job.

"Joshua Spenton is a good person who made a mistake and acknowledged his mistake today," said his attorney Steve Schroering.

Spenton will be formally sentenced in August.
