LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of family and friends were grieving Thursday night after a father was shot and killed on his porch.

Witnesses say when they first heard the gunshots, they thought it was only fireworks. But around 7 p.m., police were called to the intersection of South 35th Street and Doerhoefer Avenue.

When police arrived they found a man in his late 20s dead on his front porch from multiple gunshot wounds.

Family members have identified the victim as James Moore, but he was known as Toody. His father, Chauncy Durham,  and aunt tell us he never started problems with anyone and was always busy working to provide for his children.

Durham says his son had four children -- three girls and one boy.  He says no one deserves to die this way, especially his son.

"This is my grandson, he's going to miss his grandson," Durham said. "He don't got a daddy no more, but he's got his grand daddy."

Family members say Toody worked at JB Swift and he was usually at work at this time but got off early for the holiday weekend.

"Unfortunately this is occurring way too often," LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said. "Always tragic and this ones no different."

Police do not have any suspects but are interview neighbors.
