Civil War era cannons fired at Historic Tunnel Mill

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Cannons from the Civil War era were fired Saturday at Historic Tunnel Mill in Charlestown, Indiana.

The living history center fired them every 15 minutes as part of its 4th of July celebration.

An Old West Cowboy shootout was also part of the event.

Organizers say making a lot of noise on the 4th of July was as common in the past as it is today.

They say celebrations like the cannon firing help Americans connect with their past.

Nathanael Logsdon of Historic Tunnel Mill says, "As time moved on, we've gotten caught up in having cookouts and pool parties and things like that. It's good to remember what this country was founded on and where we came from and so we come back to that."

The next special event on the property is on October 17th when there will be an interactive interpretation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
