ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials with Kentucky State Police say a man who was shot by police in Elizabethtown has died. 

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting, which happened on Fontaine Drive, near Patriot Parkway, a little after 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to authorities.

The incident started after a call was placed by a woman for a welfare check. Two Elizabethtown Police officers responded to the call. Officials say the situation escalated and the man was shot after pulling out a knife.

Elizabethtown Police say the officers involved in the shooting are OK; the suspect who was shot was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by Kentucky State Police.
