LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Two Louisville City players were named to USL’s Team of the Week after the boys in purple took down Richmond 3-0 on Saturday.

The fireworks started early on July 4 as Louisville City lit up the scoreboard against Richmond, a team they had previously drawn 1-1 in a physical match back in April. Louisville came out swinging Saturday, switching fields with ease and working the ball up and down the wings -- and into the goal.

“It’s very difficult tonight to stand and say one player was excellent, I thought the whole team were very disciplined and phenomenal in their approach,” Coach James O’Connor said after the game.

Nevertheless, two of Louisville’s goal-scorers, Matt Fondy and Tarek Morad, were named to USL’s Team of the Week. That’s two in a row for Fondy, who was named player of the week last week after a 6-2 victory over the Oklahoma City Energy, in which Fondy scored his first professional hat trick.

Morad’s goal came on a set-piece, something O’Connor has been working with his players to capitalize on – given the team’s remarkable 103 corner kicks this season. That’s almost seven corner kicks per game.

After the win, Enrique Montano talked about the set-piece, saying he and Morad had been spending extra time after practice recently working on that very play.

“Considering the amount of conversations we’ve had, it’s nice to be stood here saying ‘OK, great, we’ve got a goal from one,’” O’Connor said.

Magnus Rasmussen netted the team’s third goal when he won some space outside the box and was able to walk the ball into a comfortable shooting position and finish with a precision strike.

“We’re pleased, but we’ve got a big game again next Saturday, so we’ll get another good week’s training behind us and look to Charlotte,” O’Connor said.
